Silence Reigns

Silence reigned.

It layered the desolate fields, clung to the crumbling buildings and echoed through the stale air.

Along the trodden and decaying streets the absence of sound only added to the graying colors that accompanied it.

Rubble and debris littered the once immaculate ground.

A lone car, half rusted with age, remained the sole testament to the street's history.

Any who might have brought laughter or shouts to the lonely route were driven out, their story left behind, forgotten.

And without the truth only a witness can provide; the deafening lull that flowed about, only held the mystery of the past.

For even following the slow trickle of time, the vibrant colors that once captivated visitors was drained away and the sun rained down only gray.

Whether life will be breathed back into the deserted center is unknown, but for now; silence reigns.
